The Consciousness Explorers come to Fredericksburg, VA AND TO ZOOM (for international participants)
Join us as we explore consciousness practices from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Our first series will focus on Dream Yoga.
Dream Yoga is a profound, advanced practice for waking up to reality and discovering one’s true nature. In this series, we “wake up” to the reality that both daytime and night-time are “illusory”, or “empty” of inherent existence. What does this mean? To the western mind, “illusion” is strange, if not absolutely terrifying. To the Tibetan, understanding illusion is the key to living a truly blissful life. Dream Yoga practice moves one into the knowing of illusion beyond the cognitive mind. It allows a direct knowing of reality.
We will review the concepts of lucidity or “Lucid” dreaming, stability of consciousness, and how they inform the Dream Yoga practice. Your guides in this are Kim (“Kim-la’) Desrosiers, and Dr. John McLaughlin. John’s Buddhist, philosophic and lucid dreaming experiences provide the participant with a translation of eastern thought into western culture. Kim’s direct training with H.E. Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche in Sleep Yoga and Clear Light practices and her experience leading Dr. Robert Thurman’s International Study and Practice Group in the Kalachakra Tantra facilitates a clear and direct channel into the subtle and super-subtle mind territories.
Dream Yoga requires a high degree of focus, openness, non-grasping, bodhicitta and a deep desire to know one’s true nature. It is one of the Six Dharmas of Naropa, and can take an individual beyond suffering into an enlightened state. To the western mind, Dream Yoga practice is the most accessible of the Six Dharmas.
These practices are not limited to Buddhists. With that said, these practices are not for everyone. They require a certain mind/heart readiness. If you are uncertain about if this series is right for you, please reach out to Kim Desrosiers or John McLaughlin to find out more.
Parking is along the street, or at the “Battleground Lots” located at Hanover and Moncure Streets.
